Approximately 5,200 Australians clamored at the Sydney Opera House on Monday to take part in a photoshoot. The awesome thing is that they stripped off all their clothing just for the event.
The photoshoot, entitled Mardi Gras: The Base, was organized by New York-based artist Spencer Tunick, who is currently amassing shots showcasing nudes against urban backdrops. The photoshoot also doubled as a celebration of Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras from last weekend.
“I thought it could be a bit awkward, but it’s funny because when you’re naked and everybody else is naked,” shares Steven Anglier, a participant in the event. “You feel like you’re dressed, because everybody looks the same.”
Tunick has succeeded in producing approximately 100 of such exhibition installations from around the world. He further contests that his work is not about eroticism, but rather focusing on the vulnerability of life on rough city landscapes.
