Hartz Mountain Corp., a leading pet product company in the U.S., has recalled around 75,000 bags of its dog treats due to possible risk of salmonella contamination.
The news was announced by the United States Food and Drug Administration after a random sample testing conducted by the FDA showed presence of salmonella organisms in at least one 8-ounce bag of Hartz Naturals Real Beef Treats for Dogs. FDA said the affected treats have a stamped lot code of BZ0969101E. It advises pet owners to observe their dogs closely for fever, nausea, abdominal pains and diarrhea symptoms.
So far, no report of humans or animals getting sick because of the treats has been reported. The Secaucus-based company is still doing an investigation.
