A strong earthquake hit the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, causing widespread blackouts, tsunami warnings and panic.
The major quake shook the Northern Sumatra region at around 5:15 in the morning (local time).
According to the Meteorological, Geophysics and Climatology Agency, it has not received any report of casualties or severe damages yet.
Somebody from the agency’s earthquake center also reported that tsunami waves that were about 1 foot high were seen at Banyak Island in Aceh province.
The United States Geological Survey posted on its website that the earthquake’s epicenter was located at 205 kilometers west, northwest of Sibolga, Sumatra (or 60 kilometers southeast of Sinabang, on Simeulue Island), and struck 46 kilometers deep.
