Last week, Alex Lambert was one of the last four contestants that did not make it to American Idol Season 9’s top 12 finalists, together with Lilly Scott, Todrick Hall and Katelyn Epperly.

A few hours after the boot, a petition to bring him back on the show has started circulating around the Internet.

Fans argue that Lambert was “sent home too early” and that he is “a much more talented singer” than some of the contestants that made it to the final cut.

Lambert sang “Wonderful World” by James Morrison (top 24), “Everybody Knows” by John Legend (top 20) and “Trouble” by Ray LaMontagne (top 16).

The petition says, “The signatures on this petition are not expected to be taken lightly. But instead, as a serious cause of action in bringing Alex Lambert back onto American Idol before the season ends.”

As of this writing, the petition has gathered 7,700 signatures, just 2,300 signatures away from its target of 10,000.
