Ray Allen became the 33rd NBA player to be part of the elite 20,000-point club after sinking a 3-pointer in the third quarter of their game against the Washington Wizards.
The 13-year veteran was only 14 points away from the achievement before the game started.
“It’s interesting how basketball’s such a team sport, but it’s governed by so many individual statistics. I’m just grateful I’ve had great teammates, I’ve had great coaches, and I’ve had pretty good organizations, and that’s helped me be where I am today,” Allen said.
When he joined the Boston Celtics in 2007, he was not as productive in offense as he was when he played for the Bucks and the Sonics earlier in his career.
He explained, “What I did learn, somewhere around my fourth or fifth year, is that the more I pass the ball, the more it’s going to come back to me. So that’s a philosophy that for a long time I’ve lived by.”
The Celtics won over the Wizards, 104-102, with Allen scoring 18 points.
