Amazon reports that e-books are all the rage nowadays.
Apparently, the Amazon.com website is reporting that over the course of Christmas Day, the Amazon Kindle is actually the most gifted item ever hosted on the site. Supporting that claim is a subtitle, saying that more e-books for the Kindle were actually gifted than physical books.
“We are grateful to our customers for making Kindle the most gifted item ever in our history,” says Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon.com.
There definitely is much speculation here, considering that Amazon didn’t actually give specific figures to back that up, but the press release does mention that customer ordered a staggering 9.5 million items worldwide on December 14, 2009 alone, touted as Amazon’s peak day this season. That, too, means that there were about 110 items ordered per second (the press release does the math for you).
But, they definitely have been trying to make efforts to actually reach an endeavor such as this, including making the Kindle reader-friendly for the blind.
It makes us wonder whether they could have done better if there wasn’t a website outage two days before Christmas.
