The house that became popular because of the 1979 film “The Amityville Horror” is for sale.
The five-bedroom Dutch Colonial located in Suffolk County, New York costs $1.15 million.
In 1974, six members of the DeFeo family were shot in their sleep and killed there by another DeFeo family member. About a year later, the Lutz family moved into the house, but only lived there for less than a month. They said there were paranormal activities happening inside the house all the time and that scared them away.
The murders and hauntings became the subject of a book and several films. In 1979, the Oscar-nominated film “The Amityville Horror” was made, starring Margo Kidder and James Brolin. It is based on the true story of the Lutz family’s experiences while living in the house.
The house has been renovated and is only open to qualified buyers by appointment.
