When asked regarding Florida church’s plan to burn the Koran on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks Jolie says, “I have hardly the words that somebody would do that to somebody’s religious book.” She praised U.S. officials who condemned this plan.
Jolie is in Pakistan raising awareness about the floods that devastated the country over the last six weeks. She is visiting as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N.’s refugee agency. U.N. officials hope this would help fundraising.
Only 64% of U.N.’s appeal for emergency funds was issued because the Pakistani government is accused of corruption. “I don’t want some people to use it (corruption) as an excuse not to give assistance. I have seen what they have done in the field. If you are nervous about giving money directly there are other ways to do it.”
UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Valerie Amos, assured corruption allegations would be investigated.
Putting to rest speculations on whether she had ever considered adopting a child from Pakistan, “There are different feelings about adoption in Muslim countries so I would never consider adjusting those rules,” adding there are other ways to sponsor a child.
