An unidentified man scared passengers aboard a commercial flight on Friday, forcing NORAD to send in fighter jets to escort the plane to a safe landing zone.
In the second event of its kind in three days, the North American Aerospace Defense Command sent two F-16s to escort AirTran Flight 39, bound for San Francisco from Atlanta, after receiving reports that a passenger aboard was causing trouble onboard, and refused to leave the passenger restroom. The F-16s escorted Flight 39 to Colorado Springs for an emergency landing.
A spokesperson for the airline shared that the passenger, who is unidentified as of this time, seemed to be drunk.
The suspect was detained by the FBI as soon as the plane landed. The FBI also plans to question passengers regarding the incident.
The incident raises questions as to how the passenger might have become intoxicated onboard the plane, especially since the incident happened in such close proximity to the failed Flight 253 terror bombing, which triggered more stringent airport security measures.
