Former NFL quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver earned his third American Century Championship title on Sunday, besting other celebrities that participated in the 54-hole golf competition for sports and entertainment personalities.
He scored 84 points, a record-setting victory, in the modified Stableford system. He had a 19-point lead over Dallas Cowboys’ QB Tony Romo, ex-Atlanta Braves’ pitcher John Smoltz, actor Jack Wagner and Hall of Fame QB John Elway, who all finished second with 65 points each.
Tolliver received $125,000 and a trophy. His two other titles were won in 1996 and 2005.
Other notable celebrities that played in the tournament were NBA legend Michael Jordan, who finished 22nd, two-time and defending champ Rick Rhoden, who took the eighth place, and NBA star Charles Barkley, who failed to keep himself from placing last for the fifth straight year.
