The 78-year old veteran promoter is losing chances of pursuing undefeated boxing star Floyd Mayweather Jr. to sign the contract for his mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao to happen later this year.
Arum never heard of Mayweather Jr. as his self-imposed deadline set by Top Rank for him to agree to the scheduled November 13 fight ends this weekend.
Like the rest of world when everyone has been craving to see two of the world’s top pound-for-pound boxers clash in the ring, Arum himself said that he’ll be disappointed if all talks made between Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions – which represented by Mayweather Jr. – won’t took place.
“We have heard nothing from (Floyd)”, Arum said as quoted by USA Today. “But hey, it’s not the end of the world. If it doesn’t happen this year, hopefully it will happen next year.”
In case Pacquiao-Mayweather match doesn’t materialize, Arum is leaning more on a showdown with former two-time world champion Antonio Margarito of Mexico. He also considers a rematch between Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto for the World Boxing Association (WBA) light-middleweight crown.
