Actor and playwright Robert “Bobby” Spillane, son of New York City mobster Mickey Spillane, died Saturday after falling from his sixth floor apartment in midtown Manhattan.
According to the police, the younger Spillane was leaning against the apartment window screen, calling out to his brother, when it gave way. He tumbled out of the window and hit a tree on the way down.
Bobby’s uncle, Jim McManus, said, “The poor kid had a terrible accident.”
Michael Spillane, the brother who Bobby was calling out to, witnessed the whole tragic accident.
McManus added, “Michael said he’ll never forget the thump when he [Bobby] hit the ground. He said, ‘That will be in my mind forever.”
Investigation is ongoing.
Bobby appeared on TV shows like “Law & Order” and “Rescue Me.” He lost his father in 1977 when he was only 12. His dad, Mickey, was a legendary mobster, known for running rackets on the West Side in the 1960s.
