Pune, India – A bomb detonated in a restaurant popular among tourists in Pune, India, killing at least eight, and wounding approximately 33 others, according to recent reports.
The explosion occurred in German Bakery, a popular attraction in Koregaon Park in the city of Pune, western India. The nationalities of the dead have not yet been disclosed. However, it has been confirmed that at least four foreigners were among the injured, according to Maharashtra state officials.
“We heard a big noise and we all rushed out,” shared Vinod Dhale, an employee in the restaurant, in a report by Reuters. “The impact was so much that there were tiny body parts everywhere.” Estimates put the time of the blast at around 7:00p.m. local time (1:30 p.m. GMT).
Initial investigations assumed that the blast was caused by a gas canister that somehow exploded, but later findings confirm that the explosion was due to an improvised explosive device, otherwise known as an IED. Witnesses report that there seemed to have been an abandoned bag in the premises that may have contained the IED.
