The 79-year old star of the films “The Wicker Man” and “Breaker Morant,” Edward Woodward, died at the Royal Cornwall Hospital on Monday.

Woodward was best known for his television series, “The Equalizer,” which had 88 episodes and was aired from 1985 to 1989 on CBS. He won a Golden Globe for “The Equalizer” in 1987 and an Emmy for “Remembering World War II in 1990.”

He appeared in at least 40 movies made for television or theater. He was part of “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” a 1987 U.S. television film adaptation of the novel by Harriet Breecher Stowe. His last film appearance was in 2007 in “Hot Fuzz.”

In an interview with Associated Press in 1987 he said, “I think I’ve probably more television than any actor living. I’ve done over 2,000, could be 3,000 now, television productions.”

He also recorded 12 song albums.

Woodward left behind his wife, actress Michele Dotrice, their daughter, and another daughter and two sons from his previous marriage.
