Anthony D. Marshall, son of philanthropist and socialite Brooke Astor, was sentenced to one to three years in prison, starting January 19, for plundering his mom’s millions.
New York State Supreme Court Justice A. Kirke Bartley Jr. imposed the minimum sentence on Monday and gave him 30 days to settle his affairs.
The 85-year-old Marshall did not speak at his hearing. His lawyers depicted him as a loyal and responsible son who just obeyed his mother’s wishes for him to have the money and other properties he was accused of stealing.
Francis X. Morrisey Jr., an estate lawyer, was also sentenced to one to three years jail time. He was convicted for his involvement in aiding Marshall steal Astor’s money.
Brooke Astor donated about $200 million to charities and institutions before her death in 2007 at age 105. She had Alzheimer’s disease.
