Who should be the next “Captain America”?

Director Joe Johnston and Marvel have narrowed down the list of who gets to play the lead role in the film “The First Avenger: Captain America” to just five actors.

According to the website Deadline.com, the actors who made it to the shortlist are: Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald on “Gossip Girl”), Michael Cassidy (“Smallville” and “The OC”), Scott Porter (“Friday Night Lights”), Patrick Flueger (“4400” and “Brothers”) and John Krasinski (Jim Halpert on “The Office”).

The most popular name among the lot is John Krasinksi, and rumors have already begun circulating around that he’s already a “sure thing.”

However, the makers of this Marvel adaptation have not made a final choice yet. Johnston said they have until March 1 to decide.

“The First Avenger: Captain America” is scheduled for a July 2011 release.
