James Gamon, the Hollywood actor who played the role of Lou Brown in the movie “Major League,” died Friday in Costa Mesa, California. He was 70.
According to his wife Nancy, Gammon had been battling with cancer. She said, “He had cancer two and a half years ago. It came back aggressively about a month ago in his adrenal glands and liver, and he was very weak. They couldn’t do surgery or chemotherapy. He decided he wanted to come home, and we did hospice.”
Gammon’s other film and TV credits include “Cold Mountain,” “Urban Cowboy,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” and “Nash Bridges.”
In 1996, he was part of the revival of Sam Shepard’s play “Buried Child.” He won a Joseph Jefferson Best Principal Actor award for it and also earned a Tony nomination.
Gammon is survived by his wife, a brother (Phillip), a sister (Sandra Glaudell), two daughters (Allison Mann and Amy Gammon) and two grand kids (Hudson and Henry Mann).
