Chile Earthquake: Google launches Person Finder to help locate missing people

Chile Earthquake – In an effort to help locate missing people, Google has published a web application that serves to help facilitate information regarding people’s whereabouts in disaster-stricken Chile.

The application, dubbed ‘Person Finder‘, is designed to accept information regarding the location and state of people in Chile, and allows other people to search its database regarding a specific person. At the time of this writing, the application is already tracking approximately 17,400 records.

For example, you may be worried about whether a friend of yours is safe and sound after the quake. You can boot up Person Finder and input the name of the person you’re looking for. Now, someone in Chile might have some information regarding your friend, and may have entered earlier in Person Finder that they’re safe. Once you send in your query, Person Finder gives you the latest information it has about your friend.

Google’s Person Finder can be found at AppSpot. Independent news provider Newsy has also provided a news video regarding the Chile earthquake below.
