China blocks IMDb after Google coup

Adding to an ever-growing list of forbidden sites in China is the Internet Movie Database (IMDb.com), after the Chinese government seems to have blocked all access to the site since Wednesday.

The ban comes just days after Google has announced that they will not be continuing the government’s demands of filtering web results as censorship. The move by Google has been followed by speculations that Google may, indeed, leave the country for good if they will not be able to operate on their own terms.

IMDb is owned by Amazon, and generates 57 million visits per month, even without a Chinese language version available, but the Chinese government didn’t let that stop them anyway.
