R&B singer Chris Brown, in a court ruling for a case with ex-girlfriend Rihanna, had been sentenced to five years probation, along with 180 days in prison or equivalent, for charges of assault, in a Los Angeles court Monday. Formal sentencing will convene on August 5.
Brown had pleaded guilty for one charge of assault involving intent to go great bodily harm inside a Lamborghini last February, but Brown denies all other allegations of assault.
R&B singer Rihanna was also issued a “stay away” order by Los Angeles Criminal Court Judge Patricia Schnegg, which prohibited her from being within 100 yards of Brown. Rihanna requested for the exclusion of this order, but Schnegg refused, saying that she was willing to reduce it to 50 yards, or 10 yards if they had an “industry event” together.
Schnegg added that she would consider lifting the order after Brown finishes a year-long domestic violence counseling class, also declared mandatory by the court to Brown.
“[Brown] embraces this as an opportunity to get his life back on track and get his career back on track,” defense attorney Mark Geragos said.
