Four Christian churches in Malaysia were attacked due to tensions over the non-Muslims’ use of the word “Allah.”
The media reported that a molotov cocktail was thrown at a church in Selangor on Friday, but it fortunately failed to ignite.
Earlier that day, another church, this time in Kuala Lumpur, was attacked with a petrol bomb.
The authorities also received several reports of vehicles, which have Christian symbols on them, with smashed windshields in the Bangsar suburb.
Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said, “I take the events that happened last night very seriously. We want to assure the public that this was not a co-ordinated and well-planned action.”
Musa Hassan, the chief of police, said, “I have instructed all patrol cars to patrol all church areas – we are monitoring all churches”.
Just last week, a Malaysian court suspended the ban on the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims in their literature. Since then, Muslim groups have held protests, arguing that “Allah” should be exclusive to Islam.
