Jimmy Dean, a legend in the country music scene, died Sunday night at his home in Varina, Virginia.
Dean made several chart topping hits in the 60s, including the crossover song “Big Bad John.” The song not only went to the top of many pop and country music charts in 1961, but also won a Grammy award.
He, who was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame this February, was also a television host for a number of years. He had a show called “The Jimmy Dean Show” and he had also been part of the NBC tv series “Daniel Boone.”
He founded a meat company named The Jimmy Dean Meat Co in 1969 and sold it to Sara Lee 15 years later.
He is survived by his wife Donna Meade Dean, three kids and two grandchildren.
