Crib recall 2010: 2 million cribs pulled from market

More than 2 million cribs by seven different manufacturers have been recalled due to safety issues, according to several news reports.

Most of the cribs involved were those “drop-sides” that have side railings that can be moved up and down. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said that if this particular feature will malfunction, the cribs will have a gap where babies can insert their heads into, leaving them trapped. This can lead to strangulation or suffocation.

The following crib models were included in the recall, according to Associated Press:

  • 50,000 Jenny Lind drop-side cribs (Evenflo Inc.)
  • 306,000 Bonavita, Babi Italia and ISSI drop-side cribs (LaJobi Inc.)
  • 156,000 Million Dollar Baby drop-side cribs
  • 130,000 Jardine drop-side cribs (Toys R Us)
  • 50,000 Simmons drop-side cribs
  • 40,000 to 50,000 Child Craft brand stationary-side cribs and drop-sides
  • 747,000 Delta drop-side cribs
