Exiled Tibetan leader Dalai Lama appeared in front of several thousands of people on Sunday at the Universal Studios in Los Angeles, and talked about the importance of resolving conflicts, the bad effects of being materialistic, and his hopes for the Tibetan people.
According to the Tibetan leader, “People today are too much concerned with exterior material values and not our inner values.” He added, while touching his chest, that happiness ultimately depends on our hearts.
On Saturday, the Dalai Lama was asked about his take on the whole Tiger Woods sex scandal, but the spiritual leader had no idea who the golfer was.
After being told of Woods’ controversy, the Dalai Lama said, “Whether you call it Buddhism or another religion, self-discipline, that’s important. . . . Self-discipline with awareness of consequences.”
Woods held a press conference Friday to give his side on the issue and apologize to his wife, family and friends. He talked about how he had “drifted away” from Buddhist teachings in the past years and his plans of reintroducing himself to the religion to “become a better man.”
