Decibel levels at NFC championship reach record high

The decibel levels at the SuperDome reached an amazing 102 as football fans screamed and cheered for their favorite teams in the 2010 NFC championship.

FOX TV aired the game live and showed a meter that measured the decibel levels at the SuperDome, a building structure that is enclosed, which made the noise even louder.

On the decibel scale, a noise level at 102 may lead to hearing loss if exposed to it for a long time.

Listed below are some of the most common sounds and their decibel levels:

Threshold of Hearing – 0 dB

Whisper – 10 dB

Normal Conversation – 60 dB

Walkman with Volume at Maximum Level – 100 dB

Threshold of Pain – 130 dB

Instant Perforation of Eardrum – 160 dB

The Minnesota Vikings players had anticipated this scenario and made adjustments on their custom earplugs. Unfortunately, they lost to the New Orleans Saints, 28-31, in overtime.
