Former Dodger Willie Davis found dead

Center fielder Willie Davis, who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers for 14 seasons, was found dead at his home in Burbank, California on Tuesday. He was 69.

The cause of death is still under investigation, but the police believe there’s no foul play involved.

In a statement issued by Dodgers team owner Frank McCourt, he said, “He was beloved by generations of Dodger fans and remains one of the most talented players ever to wear the Dodger uniform. Having spent time with him over the past six years, I know how proud he was to have been a Dodger. He will surely be missed and our sincere thoughts are with his children during this difficult time.”

Davis won two World Series rings and has six team records under his belt. He is still the franchise leader in total bases (3,094), runs (1,004), hits (2,091), at-bats (7,495), triples (110) and extra-base hits (585).
