Dwight Howard named Defensive Player of the Year

Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard has been named NBA‘s Defensive Player of the Year.

This is the third straight season Howard has received the honor, making him the first-ever to achieve this feat.

According to the league, the 6-foot-11 center got 585 votes, 114 of which were first-place votes, from the 120-man panel made up of broad casters and sportswriters. Boston Celtics’ Kevin Garnett came in second with 77 points, while Dallas Mavericks’ Tyson Chandler finished third with 70. Memphis Grizzlies’ Tony Allen and Boston Celtics’ Rajon Rondo came in fourth and fifth, respectively.

The most number of times the DPOY has been won by a player is four, and only two players have done that: Ben Wallace and Dikembe Mutombo.
