Ethiopian plane crash in Beirut – An Ethiopian Airlines plane crash occurred in the Mediterranean Sea on Monday morning, when a plane crashed shortly after taking off from the Beirut Airport in Lebanon.

Ethiopian Flight 409, a Boeing 747 licensed under Ethiopian Airlines, was believed to have had 92 passengers on board. The plane was heading for the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, according to Lebanese aviation sources.

Officials report that the plane disappeared from radar approximately five minutes after taking off at around 3:30 p.m. local time. Officials note that the plane was scheduled to have taken off at 3:10 p.m. local time, and are investigating the exact cause of the delay. Terrorism has been discounted as the reason for the crash, with authorities saying that the plane crash was most probably due to weather conditions, as there had been heavy rains and lightning in Beirut since Sunday.
