Prince Chunk, a huge fat cat that became popular when the Camden County Animal Shelter in New Jersey took him in about two years ago, has died.
In 2008, when his original owner’s home was foreclosed, the feline was left to wander around Jersey. He weighed 44 pounds then and, according to the animal shelter, a few pounds more and he could have beaten the world record.
Vince Damiani, the adoptive owner of the pet, said the 10-year-old cat died in his sleep on Sunday. A veterinarian diagnosed him with a heart disease.
Prince Chunk, who became a media sensation in August 2008, had appeared on a number of television shows and magazine covers, including “Live with Regis and Kelly,” “Good Morning America,” People magazine and some New York tabloids.
