Federer crushes Davydenko, makes it to the Australian Open semi-final

Roger Federer has moved on to the Australian Open semi-final after defeating Russian Nikolay Davydenko, 2-6 6-3 6-0 7-5.

This is Federer’s 23rd consecutive Grand Slam appearance.

He proved to be the better athlete  as he was able to win his first 12 matches against the Russian star. However, in their past two meetings prior to this win, he lost to Davydenko in London in November and in Doha’s season-opener that occurred earlier this month.

Despite bowing down to Davydenko in the first set, the Swiss was able to sweep the remaining three sets to win the match.

“I’ve played him many times and I know he goes through phases, you just try to stay positive,” the 15-time Grand Slam Champion said. “I wasn’t playing terribly, just struggling with the sun coming across. It’s like a rain delay, you just wait.”

Federer will go up against Jo-Wilfriend Tsonga or Novak Djokovic in the semi-final.
