Rev. Terry Jones, the controversial pastor from Florida who gained a lot of attention last month for planning a Quran-burning event on September 11, received a free car from a New Jersey dealer.
Car dealer Brad Benson from New Brunswick made the offer with the condition that Jones back down on his threat.
David Canton, general manager of Benson Hyundai, told CNN over the weekend, “He stood up to his end of the bargain and we’re standing up to ours.”
According to Canton, a rep from the Dove World Outreach Center contacted them to check if the offer was still standing…and it really was.
They are giving Jones a 2011 Hyundai Accent, which is worth around $13,600. He will have to pick it up personally at the Brad Benson Mitsubishi Hyundai in South Brunswick and fill out the paperwork.
Jones explained that he and his group were “not trying to profit from this. We are not keeping the car for ourselves.” He added that they plan to donate the car to a charity that aids abused Muslim women.
