Former world heavyweight champion George Foreman has advised Miguel Cotto to think defense, and try to beat Manny Pacquiao through decision on their upcoming title bout this November 15.
In a report by CNN, Foreman seems to be backing Puerto Rican Cotto against Filipino contender Pacquiao, who is adhered by many as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
“I think there would have been a good opportunity for Pacquiao to win if he faced Cotto before he fought [Joshua Clottey], but now Cotto is thinking defense,” Foreman reportedly told website Sporting Life. “… because of the terrible beating [Cotto] took against [Antonio Margarito], he knows he can’t get into a knockdown drag-out brawl.”
Foreman was referring to when Cotto was knocked out of his perfect win record by Margarito in July 2008. Earlier this year, Cotto defended his title with a points decision against Clottey.
“He’s going to be smarter, and I think Cotto wins in a 12-round decision,” Foreman concludes.
Pacquiao will be going into the ring with Cotto, straight off successful fights against Ricky Hatton and Oscar dela Hoya.
