Guru, legendary rapper and founding member of the duo Gangstarr, reportedly suffered from cardiac arrest this weekend and is now in a coma.
The 43-year-old rapper, whose real name is Keith Elam, is in critical condition. According to HipHopWired, his former Gangstarr partner, DJ Premier, confirmed on DJ Eclipse’s HipHopNation/Sirius radio that Guru will undergo surgery on Monday afternoon.
The news of Guru’s heart attack came as a surprise to his fans and colleagues. They expressed their reactions via Twitter:
Slaughterhouse’s Royce Da 5’9 tweeted: “Praying 4 Guru….”
Dilate People’s Evidence wrote: “When Worst Comes To Worst My Peoples Come First #PrayforGuru.”
Gangstarr’s latest album was released in 2003 and was entitled “The Ownerz.” After that, the pair went their own separate ways.
In the past few years, Guru started working with Solar and launched 7 Grand Records, his own record label.
