Garth Brooks was among those honored at this year’s Songwriters Hall of Fame gala held in New York City.

Aside from the country superstar, Thursday night’s event also recognized the works of Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg, who wrote the hits “I’ll Stand By You” (The Pretenders), “Like A Virgin” (Madonna), “True Colors” (Cyndi Lauper), and “So Emotional” (Whitney Houston).

Another Madonna songwriter made it to the Hall of Fame – John Bettis, who wrote “Crazy For You,” and Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature.”

Leon Russell and Allen Toussaint were also honored.

The induction ceremony featured performances by Trisha Yearwood, Brooks, and Billy Joel.
