Gatorade announced that it is officially putting an end to its relationship with golfer Tiger Woods.
The company’s spokesperson Jennifer Schmit issued this statement: “We no longer see a role for Tiger in our marketing efforts. . . . However, our partnership with the Tiger Woods Foundation will continue. We wish him all the best.”
Gatorade and Woods began working together in 2007. The company said its decision was because of weak sales and not his sex scandal.
Gatorade is the third sponsor that dropped Woods since the news about his extramarital affairs with other women went out. The first two companies were Accenture and AT&T.
However, Woods need not worry too much because several sponsors are still behind him up to now including Upper Deck Co., Nike Inc., and Electronic Arts Inc.
Mark Steinberg, Woods’ agent, said in an email: “While we are disappointed Gatorade has decided to not continue with Tiger in their marketing plans, we appreciate their continued involvement with Tiger through his foundation.”
