George Clooney’s “The American” tops box office
 

The American,” a spy film starring George Clooney, raked in an estimated total of $13 million over the weekend, making it the number 1 Labor Day Weekend movie.

The assassin drama opened last Wednesday and now has a total earnings of $16.1 million.

Last weekend’s number 1 box office film “Takers,” slid down to number 2 with $11.45 million this weekend, bringing its total to $37.9 million.

“Machete,” an action flick released by 20th Century Fox starring Danny Trejo and Lindsay Lohan, took the third spot with $11.3 million. “The Last Exorcism” took in $7.65 million, securing itself with the fourth spot.

Coming in at number 5 was Warner Bros’ “Going the Distance,” a romantic comedy starring Drew Barrymore, which earned $6.9 million.

Rounding out the top 10 North American box office for the holiday weekend:

6. “The Expendables” – $6.6 million

7. “The Other Guys” – $5.4 million

8. “Eat Pray Love” – $4.85 million

9. “Inception” – $4.53 million

10. “Nanny McPhee Returns” – $3.58 million
