The traditional white background results in washed out hard-to-read grey drop shadow text, another colour works better but I still much prefer the traditional Google look…

One of the last choices on the “change” page is white but the effect is not the same as making it as it was. It affects the logo and other text colors as well.

The “remove image” only comes up as an option if you’ve selected your own image to upload (for which you need to have an igoogle account setup.

i hate it too – but I think I’ll be uploading a purely white picture very soon to get back to the previous look.
