Is Google in copyright trouble for the Nexus One?

With all the hype bubbling about Google’s shiny new Nexus One being a ’superphone’, there’s bound to be a few kinks and loose screws somewhere that somebody will notice, right?

Somewhat surprisingly (or not), Google’s Nexus One smartphone may be in trouble this time for a copyright breach – of sorts.

Apparently, the family of Philip K. Dick is making preparations to spar with Google in the courtroom for using the ‘Nexus One’ moniker, according to a report by the Telegraph. Philip K. Dick is the author of the 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, which features robots known as ‘Nexus 6 models’.

Philip’s novel is the inspiration behind the movie Blade Runner.

The family argues that the ‘coincidence’ of the android concept (referring to Google Android, the operating system that the Nexus One is running in), along with the presence of a Nexus-plus-number name clearly shows that Google stole the idea from them.

“In my mind, there is a very obvious connection to my father’s novel,” comments Isa Dick Hackett, Philip’s daughter in a statement.
