If you remember, the city of Topeka, Kansas motioned to change its name to Google sometime early in March. So for April Fools’ Day, the real Google opted to change its name to Topeka.
Bill Bunten, the mayor of Topeka, Kansas motioned to change the name of his city to Google in a motion to hopefully convince Google to pick the city as one of the lucky participants for the web search giant’s Fiber for Communities program. The program promises to install ultra-high-speed internet connections in selected cities: connections that are typically hundreds of times faster than those present in most other cities.

“It’s just fun. We’re having a good time of it,” said Bunten.
And fun is probably what’s in Google’s minds this April Fools’ Day. Visitors to the Google.com site are being redirected to Topeka instead. Google also shares that Google employees, formerly known as Googlers, are now being called Topekers or Topekans.
