71-year-old Canadian folk singer Gordon Lightfoot is still alive.
Lightfoot’s management made the announcement after a prank message posted on Twitter said Lightfoot died while on his North American tour.
According to Bernie Fiedler, the singer’s concert promoter, Lightfoot was at his dentist’s office when the rumor began. The singer was interviewed later on by a Canadian TV station, and was shocked to hear about the news that he had passed.
“Everything is good,” Lightfoot told Toronto new station CP24. “I don’t know where it came from, it seems like a bit of a hoax. I was quite surprised to hear it myself… I feel fine.”
The singer-songwriter, whose hits include “The Wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald” and “Sundown,” suffered a minor stroke while he was on stage in 2006. He is currently doing his 26-city North American tour.
