Ousted Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak has finally broken his silence.
The former leader has been under house arrest in the resort city of Sharm-el-Sheikh since he stepped down last February 11.
In his pre-recorded speech aired recently, he claimed that he and his family were “victims of smear tactics” and “unjust campaigns and false claims that seek to ruin my reputation and challenge my integrity.” He insisted that he resigned for “the interest of the country” and that he has “decided to stay away from politics.”
The 82-year-old also said he’s ready to cooperate with the investigations regarding his family’s alleged assets abroad. He said, “After the legal process is complete, I reserve the right to legally pursue those who engaged in lies and distortions against me.”
