Hostage Taking at Discovery Channel

James J. Lee, who had been very vocal and very active rallying against Discovery Channel’s programming for years, went into the company’s headquarters with at least one explosive strapped to his body and took three people hostage at gunpoint.

Police shot him after several hours of negotiations.

The hostages, two Discovery Communications employees and a security officer, were unhurt.  Monitoring the security cameras Montgomery County Police Chief Thomas Manger said tactical officers moved in after Lee pulled out his handgun and pointed it at one of the hostages.

The explosive device strapped to Lee was detonated when he was shot.

Lee entered the building at 1 p.m.

He already served two weeks in jail for disorderly conduct against Discovery Channel offices last 2008.  Lee’s probation to stay 500 feet away from the Discovery headquarters ended two weeks ago.

Lee had been against Discovery Channel’s programs that do more harm than good.  He cited “Future Weapons”, “It Takes a Thief”, “Planet Green”, “Kate Plus 8” and “19 Kids and Counting”.

Discovery headquarters hopes to open on Thursday.
