British comedy legend, Hugh Laurie popularly known as smart aleck House M.D., is going to record an album with Warner Music Entertainment.
Fifty-two-year-old Laurie will sing the blues with the help of Joe Henry who is a two time Grammy winner. Henry is a producer who has worked with the likes of Elvis Costello, Loudon Wainwright III and Madonna. This has James Hugh Calum Laurie, OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire), “particularly thrilled”.
Already showing off his self-taught talents in House such as: playing the piano, guitar, drums, harmonica and saxophone seldom do people know Laurie can also carry a tune worthy of a recording album.
Such opportunity would’ve not been possible if Laurie hadn’t recorded his audition tape for Dr. Gregory House in 2004. Laurie was in Namibia filming Flight of the Phoenix. Executive producer of the show, Bryan Singer (who also directed The Usual Suspects, X-Men films and Superman Returns) was fooled by Laurie’s American accent that he said that he is the kind of compelling “American” actor he is looking for.
Laurie’s New Orleans blues album would start being recorded in the summer with a target release in the fall.
