Ed Norton, the Incredible Hulk in the 2008 remake, wouldn’t be seen as the green monster in the 2012 film, “The Avengers”.
This Marvel’s coming together of some of its biggest superheroes will feature Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow). All roles had been patted down with the exception of the Hulk to which Marvel Studios suddenly decided to look for an actor more committed to bringing the green monster hero onscreen.
A representative of the company cited an uncooperative Ed Norton. It would be remembered that reports leaked as early as 2008 stating disputes between the actor and people behind the scenes. Norton had to publicly clarify this stating only an artistic coming together of ideas.
As to the twice nominated 40-year-old actor’s attitude his publicists vehemently denied this citing a meeting already took place between the actor and the director regarding “The Avengers” and that negotiation concerning the talent fee already transpired.
Norton’s people clearly stated that, “whatever the case, it is completely their (Marvel’s) prerogative, and we accept their decision with no hard feelings.”
