Tony Award winner and Broadway star Idina Menzel is in negotiations to appear on the last nine episodes that will round up the first season of “Glee.”
The show will take a mid-season break starting next week and will resume in April next year.
Menzel, who is known for playing Elphaba on the Broadway musical “Wicked” and Maureen on the Broadway and big-screen adaptation of “Rent,” has admitted that she is an avid fan of the Fox musical TV show.
Followers of Glee have noticed Idina’s resemblance to Lea Michele, who plays Rachel Berry on the show, and have been wondering if she is going to be cast as Michele’s biological mother.
But the producers have said that if everything pushes through, Menzel will appear as the choir director for a rival glee club called Vocal Adrenaline.
Just recently, Glee did a cover of “Defying Gravity,” a song that Menzel sang as Elphaba on Wicked.
Another Wicked star, Kristin Chenoweth (Glinda), appeared on an earlier episode of Glee this season.
