‘American Idol’ frontrunner Pia Toscano was voted off from the show Thursday, leaving the judges and audience stunned at her elimination.

Jennifer Lopez fought back tears after host Ryan Seacreast made the shocking announcement, saying, “I have no idea what just happened here. I’m shocked. I’m angry. I don’t know what to say.”

Randy Jackson was equally shocked. “I’m gutted. You were one of the best singers in this,” he said. “I’m never upset on this show and never mad, but this makes me mad.”

Toscano closed the show with a performance of “I’ll Stand By You,” which earned a standing ovation afterwards with her fellow contestants around her.
