More than 60 devotees died in a stampede in northern India on Thursday after the temple’s gate collapsed, according to police reports.
Thousands of Hindu people gathered in the temple in Uttar Pradesh for a feast to celebrate the death anniversary of the wife of their leader Kripalu Maharaj. When it was time to give out free clothes and free lunch, the crowd went out of control.
According to reports, the main gate of Ram Janaki temple was under construction when the incident happened, resulting to a stampede.
Police Director General Brij Lal said at least 30 people were injured. The victims were rushed to the nearest hospitals in Allahabad and Pratapgarh.
