Jamere Holland dismissed from college football team due to Facebook comment

Who would’ve thought a Facebook post could lead to a football player’s dismissal from his team?

Chip Kelly, coach of the University of Oregon‘s men’s football team, said Sunday that he has discharged wide receiver Jamere Holland because of “a violation of team rules.”

According to reports, Holland posted a statement on Facebook about Oregon Ducks linebacker Kristian “Kiko” Alonso’s arrest for DUI. Holland mistakenly thought Alonso had been sacked, so he started making negative comments against the University of Oregon, saying the decision was unfair.

The fact is Alonso is still with the team, said school spokesman David Williford.

In a later post, Holland wrote: “I wish I could block whites as friends and only have blacks LOL, cause apparently I’m misunderstood.”

Mike Bellotti, the university’s athletic director, told The Oregonian how frustrated he is with Holland: “We’ve given this guy so many chances. We’ve had many sit-down, very serious talks.”
