Tokyo, Japan Earthquake – An earthquake clocking in at 6.6-magnitude rocked Tokyo on Sunday, relatively strong enough to cause a significant threat of damage.
The Tokyo earthquake comes about a month after the February earthquake that struck the Japanese island of Okinawa. The Okinawa earthquake measured in at 7.6-magnitude, approximately as strong as the Haiti earthquake some time back, but with significantly less energy than the Chile earthquake just last February as well.
The Tokyo earthquake reportedly struck at 5:08 pm local time (8:08 GMT), at approximately 40 kilometers under the ground. Most affected are those areas in the central Fukushima prefecture.
Japan and Okinawa are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area of high volcanic and earthquake activity in the Pacific Ocean.
