LeAnne Novacek, wife of former NFL superstar Jay Novacek, has died Monday morning, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.
Sally Ellerston, spokesperson of the Burleson, Texas police department, a “report of a medical emergency, possibly suicide” at around 8:37 a.m. was received by the police and fire departments. According to the report, they found LeAnne Novacek’s body in the bedroom of the house. A police spokesman told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that a self-inflicted gunshot might have caused the death. Jay Novacek was not home when the police arrived at the residence.
The 47-year-old Jay Novacek played with the Dallas Cowboys for six seasons in the 90s. He has recorded 3,576 career receiving yards, which is 9th in the Cowboys’ history. A back injury in 1996 forced him to miss the whole season. He eventually retired in 1997. He was recently recognized as a member of the College Football Hall of Fame for his achievements at the University of Wyoming.
The investigation is ongoing, and an autopsy will be conducted on Tuesday.
